Will Bankruptcy Destroy My Credit?
Contrary to what many people believe, bankruptcy will not necessarily have an adverse affect on your credit. In fact, many people actually end up having a better credit score after they file for bankruptcy than they did before filing, as unpaid debts may have negatively affected the score. However, you should know that bankruptcy will appear on your credit report for a specified period of time—it will appear for 10 years after filing under Chapter 7 and seven years after filing under Chapter 13.
